HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A WONDERFUL 2011
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Miami, December 2010 As we prepare for a new year, this is the time for joyful celebrations. It is also the moment for an evaluation of the ending year. 2010 was a difficult year for cultural organizations in South Florida and the country, but despite the financial situation, the Cultural Center kept presenting programs that promoted different aspects of Brazilian culture and gathered our members and friends throughout the year. The Brazilian music series “Botequim Cultural” in March; the participation at the Miami-Dade Public Library’s “Art of Storytelling Festival”, with the performances of storyteller Tatiana Henrique and the multi media artist Daniel Azulay, in April and May; the Brazilian literature panel with writers Ana Maria Gonçalves and Mary Del Priore at the Miami Book Fair International, were some of the cultural highlights. The Feijoada and Films, a luncheon introducing the Brazilian films participating in the Miami Film Festival in February; the meeting with the young Brazilian dancers at the Miami City Ballet School in July; the already traditional Independence Day Luncheon, in September; the luncheon to present the Brazilian Film Festival of Miami and the end of the year Feijoada, were some of the occasions in which our members and friends got together. Great news marked the end of the year: CCBU was one of the 27 winners of the Knight Arts Challenge, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s five-year, $40 million initiative to bring South Florida together through the arts, among 950 competing projects. read more

SEASON'S GREETINGS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

February 20
CCBU’s Feijoada, at Botequim Carioca, to meet and greet Valéria Sorrentino, Director of Miami International Film Festival, who presented the Brazilian Films that participated in the festival.

March 23 to April 13
Botequim Cultural: A series of 4 weekly talks, presented by the Brazilian music expert Gene de Souza, who commented on the life of 4 great Brazilian Composers. The songs of each composer were performed by Rose Max and Ramatis.

April 8
CCBU participated in the Brazilian Cultural Night, promoted by West Dade Regional Library, with the screening of the Brazilian film “Tainá”.

April 10
CCBU at the Brazil Mini Fest, which honored Brazil at the West Dade Regional Library. CCBU presented the great storyteller Tatiana Henrique.

April 16
CCBU participated at Focus Brasil with the panel “Nossa Língua Portuguesa: a herança e o futuro dos nossos filhos na América”.

April 30 to June 6
For the second time Brazil participated in MIAC (Miami International Art Cocktail), coordinated by CCBU and represented by the selected Brazilian artists Eleonora Goretkin and Silvana Soriano.

May 1
CCBU participated in the “Art of Storytelling” festival with the participation of the multi-media artist Daniel Azulay.

July 22
CCBU invited its members to meet the 35 young Brazilian dancers chosen to participate in the Miami City Ballet School.

August 7
Feijoada & Films: CCBU luncheon with the presence of Viviane Spinelli, Director of the Brazilian Film Festival of Miami. Viviane gave a preview of the movies and distributed free passes to the registered guests.

September 9
CCBU promoted the Independence of Brazil luncheon, at Fogo de Chão restaurant.

September 12
CCBU participated with a booth at the Fall for the Arts, where more than 500 visitors stopped by CCBU’s booth to get to know our organization.

September 18
The students Solange Malavazi and Jonathan Eidam were selected to receive the CCBU - TAM – ODEBRECHT scholarship.

November 20
CCBU coordinated the participation of two awarded Brazilian writers, Ana Maria Gonçalves and Mary Del Priore, at the Miami Book Fair International.

November 20
End of The Year Feijoada, at Zucchero Restaurant celebrated the end of 2010 cultural and social programming of the Centro Cultural.
